Great article...but I have a question: how can smaller technology companies: startups, systems integrators, software consulting firms, conduct the kind of deep research on their readers the niche publications did given their smaller budgets and smaller content marketing staffs?

Fernando, I've worked for publicaitons of all sizes. While PC Magazine had a large staff and huge budgets, some of them had staffs as small as 4 or 5. At the very least, we'd send out reader surveys to determine areas of greatest interest. Today there's all kinds of online technology for finding out more about readers. Cheryl
